What is ADHD in Children?
Kids can show symptoms of ADHD in multiple forms. The term itself shows that symptoms can hoover around difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and behavior. Symptoms of ADHD ar grouped into three main categories. They include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

Our ADHD Evaluation Process
Initial ADHD Consultation (2 Hours)
The first session will include the parent and child meeting as well as individual time with the child and the counselor. This session will cover open ended questions, a detailed review of academic, personal, and medical history, behavioral observation, exploration of symptoms, and concerns.
ADHD Assessment Distribution
After the first meeting, the counselor will provide the client ADHD rating scales for the client, parents, and third parties. This may include teachers. Data will be collected to support the report writing process for the ADHD evaluation.
Feedback Session (2 Hours)
The second meeting will include an in-depth review of the evaluation results and written report. This will cover discussing the diagnosis (if applicable), recommendations for future therapy options, referrals for medication, guidance on 504 plans and IEPs (Individualized Education Program), personalized strategies for school, home, and emotional support.

What is the fee for the ADHD Evaluation?
The fee for a comprehensive ADHD evaluation is $800.
This fee includes a three-part process. This includes a detailed initial 2-hour consultation session, the ADHD assessments, the follow-up 2-hour feedback session, and the ADHD report. Our process aims to ensure that you feel supported each step of the way and are able to complete the ADHD evaluation process with actionable insights and resources.
What Do We Do During the ADHD Evaluation?
During a comprehensive ADHD evaluation, you will work with the counselor to gain a clear understanding of your child’s unique strengths, challenges, and needs. The ADHD evaluation is structured over several sessions and includes the following:
Part 1:
You will meet the counselor for two hours.
- During this time the counselor will work with the parent on gaining a clear understanding of concerns, reasons for seeking the ADHD evaluation, and other questions focused on the minors needs.
- The counselor will meet with the client (the minor). During this time the counselor will observe behavior, ask questions, and include play therapy techniques to support the therapy process.
Part 2:
After the first session, the counselor will provide the parents, the minor client (if applicable), and third parties such as teachers ADHD related assessments to complete. These will give the counselor a better and more reliable understanding of ADHD. The counselor will include the results and pertinent information from the testing process in the final report.
Part 3:
The counselor will meet with the parent and child for the final meeting that will last two hours. This meeting will be comprehensive and aimed to help with understanding if there is a diagnosis of ADHD.
- This meeting will be open to answering questions and reviewing all related items on the report.
- The counselor will provide insights and recommendations based on what took place during the first meeting and the gathering of data from the testing process.
How do I get my child evaluated for ADHD?

You can also bring up the conversation of ADHD with your family doctor or pediatrician.
How much is an ADHD assessment and is it covered by insurance?
This service is not covered by insurance due to the service having specific items that are outside of those covered by insurance, this includes the session length being longer than the tradition 50-60 min sessions.

How do I know if my child might have ADHD?
Kids can show ADHD in varying ways. Typically the symptoms will focus on three core areas: Hyperactivity, Inattention, and/or Impulsivity.
- You may notice inattention in your child when they are trying to pay attention to you or there teacher for a sustained length of time. Your child may become distracted or simply tell you that they zoned out. Some kids with inattention difficulties may do things like forget their homework, lose track of items, or struggle to complete things.
- Kids that show ADHD in the area of hyperactivity may be seen to be talkers. If you are parent, then you more than likely are able to pick up on this. This is often a behavior that kids do and may struggle to know that they are doing it to the extent other see it. For instance, your child may fidget in the car or at school as if they have motor inside that doesn’t stop.
- Impulsivity often is seen in numerous ways in kids. It can be the act that leads to them getting in trouble for doing something before thinking about the consequence. For example, a child may interrupt a friend because of impulsivity or struggle to control a behavior.
Can ADHD look like other issues?
Yes! ADHD symptoms can overlap with behavioral concerns, anxiety, learning disorders, or trauma.
Our comprehensive ADHD evaluation approach helps distinguish between these other disorders or areas of concern so your child gets the right diagnosis and support.
Do you prescribe medication for ADHD?
No, Santos Counseling does not prescribe ADHD medication. We do work closely with medication providers in an effort to provide support during the process.
Our goal is to be a supportive step in your process of understanding ADHD and creating an effective plan of action. Your counselor will provide comprehensive ADHD assessment with results that expand on varying areas of support.
The report can be shared with your medication provider to support with medication process.
Will this help with school accommodations?
Your school may have spoken to you (parents) about documentation focused on your child’s ADHD. This is something that we can provide support with. If your child is diagnosed with ADHD, we provide documentation and recommendations that can support requests for:
- 504 Plans
- IEPs
- Classroom modifications
