Therapy for College Students in Greensboro, NC

Support that fits a college schedule, a college budget, and an actual college life

It has certainly been a few years since my college experience. Yet, it feels in many ways fresh. I was the first in my family to dive into the unknown space. I remember it being sold as the best four years of your life, which I remember at the time being a lot of pressure.

Those years were fun and a mix of anxiety, low motivation, burnout, stuck, lost, found, and at the end, a version of myself came out that took me a little bit of time to recognize.

Santos Counseling provides counseling for college students across the Triad. It’s something that collectively we enjoy. The majority of the counselors at Santos Counseling attended local universities in Greensboro and the surrounding Triad. We get it.

We offer in-person counseling at our Greensboro office, ten minutes from most campuses, or by telehealth from your dorm, apartment, or car between classes. We work with students at UNCG, NC A&T, Guilford College, Greensboro College, Bennett College, GTCC, Elon, High Point University, and Wake Forest. And with students from anywhere in North Carolina via telehealth.

Call (336) 663-6570 to get started. Evening slots and telehealth make it workable around a class schedule.

Why college students see us instead of (or alongside) campus counseling

Campus counseling centers do real and truly valuable work. We often work alongside them or continue to work with students after they have worked with a college counselor. Typically, college counseling is short-term and centered on academic challenges.  Santos Counseling collectively works to give students ongoing support and a consistent counseling experience across semesters. This way, you have the tools needed to move forward in life.

That’s where we fit:

  • No session caps. Therapy lasts as long as it’s useful, whether that’s five sessions or more.
  • The same counselor, all four years. Including through summers and semesters abroad won’t break the relationship — we pick back up when you’re back in NC.
  • Faster starts in crunch season. When campus waitlists hit weeks, we can usually get you in sooner.
  • Privacy from campus. You can keep your work with us separate or use it as needed. Such as for an ESA letter or academic accommodations focused on ADHD.
  • Specialized care campus centers often can’t provide long-term: ADHD, trauma work, eating concerns, LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming therapy, bilingual therapy in Spanish.

Free place to start: The Couch Podcast

Want something for the walk between classes? The Couch Podcast — Real Therapists Talk Mental Health — is hosted by Santos Counseling counselors and covers the real stuff in plain language: anxiety, relationships, boundaries, family dynamics, and what therapy actually looks like from the inside. It’s a low-pressure way to get familiar with how counselors think before you ever sit on a couch yourself — and a good answer to “what do I even talk about in therapy?”

What we help college students with

  • Anxiety. We help college students with test anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, the constant low hum of “everyone else has it figured out”
  • Depression and low motivation. We help college students who are experiencing uncomfortable changes with mood, energy, and motivation. When you can’t make yourself go to class and can’t explain why
  • ADHD. We provide ADHD diagnosis support, ADHD evaluations, accommodation letters for college, executive functioning skills, and building systems that survive a college schedule
  • Homesickness and adjustment. It’s common to experience a feeling of being stuck or discomfort when you leave home and start college. We work with college students.
  •  First-generation students
  • Perfectionism and academic burnout. We work with high achievers who got to college on overdrive and are hitting the wall.
  • Roommate, friendship, and dating stress. Working with a counselor can include addressing challenges including breakups, loneliness, and conflict you can’t walk away from because you live together
  • Identity. We are here to support you in figuring out who you are around gender, sexuality, culture, faith, and career, with a therapist who won’t flinch.
  • Family pressure. Expectations, guilt, financial strings, and renegotiating your relationship with parents as an adult
  • Substance use. Looking honestly at drinking or other use before it becomes the story of your college years
  • Grief and trauma. Including things that happened before college that finally have room to surface

Therapy that respects that you’re an adult

Counseling is your space, and our goal is to create a safe and empowering space for you. College students tell us the same thing over and over: They want a counselor who talks to them straight. Someone who will validate what’s genuinely hard and call out the avoidance, the self-sabotage, and the stories that aren’t true. That’s how we work at Santos Counseling. You’ll get real feedback, practical skills you can use this week, and accountability toward the goals you set.
