What Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Cover for Therapy in NC?

Let me start by saying that Santos Counseling will do its best to be supportive during the insurance process. We, however, are not experts in this. We encourage you to review your insurance plan with BCBS or your insurance provider.

Did you know that most BCBS plans in North Carolina include mental health benefits that cover outpatient therapy sessions with an in-network provider?

Here’s what that typically means for you as a client at Santos Counseling:

Copay: Most BCBS members pay a set copay per session. This is typically between $20 and $60, depending on your specific plan. Remember, this depends on your specific plan.

Deductible: Depending on your plan, you may need to meet your annual deductible before your copay kicks in. Our team can check this for you when you call.

Session limits: Most BCBS plans do not place strict counseling session limits on medically necessary outpatient therapy.

Important: I’m sure you are aware that not every BCBS plan is the same. There are differences. The only way to know exactly what your plan covers is to verify your specific benefits by contacting your insurance plan.

How to Use Blue Cross Blue Shield for Therapy at Santos Counseling

Here is exactly how the process works:

Step 1. Call or text us at 336-663-6570. Our intake team will ask for your insurance information and verify your BCBS benefits. We’ll do our best to tell you your copay, whether your deductible applies, and any other details that affect your cost.

Step 2. We match you with the right counselor. We have licensed counselors, each with different specialties and backgrounds. We’ll connect you with the counselor who is the best fit for your specific concerns. Not just whoever has the next opening.

Step 3. Your first session. Your counselor takes time to understand your full picture. What’s going on, how long it’s been happening, and what you want to be different. This is a real conversation. Not an intake checklist. Click here to read more about what to expect in your first session.

Step 4. We handle the billing. We bill Blue Cross Blue Shield directly. You pay your copay at the time of service. That’s it. Our goal is to create clarity.
